Well, it was about time.
After losing companies like Wordpress to other frameworks like Preact or Vue, they were probably asking themselves if the old license was really worth it.

MIT is in many way worse but if it keeps the misinformed masses off their back I'm sure Facebook will be happy.

I'm sure they couldn't care less if the like of Wordpress use React, it's just the publicity that was hurting.

May I know why ? I havent seen a serious argument about MI T being less permissive. Would love to learn.

Without an express patent grant, Facebook can still sue you for use.  It'd be a dick move, but in a patent war, it would likely happen... just look at the technology patent wars in phone tech.

Totally agree with you. In many companies, including mine, developers decided to go with the two libraries you mentioned just for the sake of patents hassle. 
Now, I am just wondering if this is happening too late or not. Anyway, we should appreciate this decision.
