I'm not convinced by this. On the example after I have filled in all the field there are then no labels.

So it's ok for very obvious fields like Credit Card number in the original article. But for long forms with many fields I think it would get confusing.

I look at Hacker News too. But many articles here never get exposure on HN.

Not sure why Boostrap doesn't just bundle this. It is so much superior than the glyphicons.
